Ron Baxter Smith is an artist, photographer and director who has worked in the UK, USA, Italy and his home country of Canada. He has been the recipient of over 500 awards for his photography, television commercials in advertising, design and his own personal work in the USA, UK, Canada and Japan including The Heart of Umbria, Italy Award and a year long Canada Council Grant. His work is in the collections of many museums in Canada and the USA; for example, The Art Institute of Chicago, The AIGA, The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Royal Ontario Museum and more.

He has won over 500 awards from competitions in Canada, The United States, The United Kingdom and, Japan. His work has been included in Graphis Photo, Nudes, Design, Advertising, Brochures, Poster and Alternative Photography. He has won medals in the D and AD in the UK, the ADC in New York, the AIGA has an archive of his awarded work including 50 Books / 50 Covers, The Mead Annual Report Show and he has been featured in Communication Arts magazine. While working on different projects for Curious Papers in the UK over a several year period, these projects accumulated over 100 awards including a Platinum Award in Graphis Brochures. He has shot for magazines like GQ, The New York Times, Discover, Time and Newsweek. His clients include Apple, Microsoft, The Royal Bank of Canada, TD Bank, Ikea, Nat West, Labatt’s and Seagrams to name a few. Many of his photographs have been published in ads that have appeared in Vogue, Elle Decor, Wallpaper, W and Vanity Fair. He has photographed two stamps for Canada Post. One on Education and the other was one of the Millennium Stamps that honoured the Canadian invention of Pablum.
In 2007, the Province of Umbria awarded him the Heart of Umbria given each year to five artists with outstanding achievement who have made Umbria their second home. Fellow recipient that same year was Academy Award winning composer, Ennio Morricone. The Province of Umbria celebrated Ron’s work with an exhibition and a book of his photographs.
As a director and director/cameraman working in commercial production, he has been the recipient of many medals and awards in both Canada and The United States. One project for Fruit of the Loom won over 15 medals, predominantly gold, including the Leo Burnett Gold Campaign of the Year and was also included in the Top Ten Ads of the Century by the Advertising Council of Canada. In his personal photography, he has been a recipient of a Canada Council Grant to concentrate on his work for a year, along with an Ontario Arts Council Grant for exhibition assistance. His work is in the collection of many museums in Canada and The United States.
