Italia. In 1975, my girlfriend and I went to study Art History in Firenze, Italia for 2.5 months that summer. It was a university credit through UBC (Univ. Of British Columbia). These months changed my life forever. The first 15 photographs in this group were shot at that time. I was in 3rd year and received a grant for York University to assist the professor in documenting the fresco cycle in the Campanile in Pisa for her dissertation. I also had sold 75 photographs to the National Film Board of Canada, Still Division to assist in the funds needed to go to Italy to study and to photograph. My girlfriend was an art history graduate and this was prep for her masters degree. We had the time of our life. We are still together, married after all these years. Working together with different people – baxtergarwood.com. We came home and the NFB bought another 80 photographs from me which they toured Canada in an exhibition for several years and are now in the museum collection in Ottawa. In 2003, we became elective residents of Italy.
