Undertow is a project that documents the deterioration of colour in paper over time. A huge billboard had been taken down near our supermarket and what remained was the glue that slowly drained down the surface becoming bleached by the sun into these ever changing tones. It became about water and being pulled under in a direction without control. The paintings in this series are archival pigment prints with graphite and watercolour over photographs. The depth comes from the cracking and the rips in the poster. The tones and depth of the painting comes from the watercolour pigment and the drawing on the surface.
